HealthSouth Harmarville Hosts Third Annual Determination Dash 5k For Community and Former Patients
PITTSBURGH, Pa.— HealthSouth Harmarville Rehabilitation Hospital is hosting its third annual Determination Dash on Sunday, Sept. 17 at 9:30 a.m. at the hospital located at 320 Guys Run Road. In celebration of the personal achievements of HealthSouth Harmarville patients, the hospital invites walkers, runners and wheelers of all abilities and ages to the event which will benefit the HOPE Network, a local nonprofit committed to promoting community integration of individuals with cognitive and/or physical challenges in southwestern Pennsylvania.
“We love the work the HOPE Network does,” said Lisa Hopkins, OTR/L, HealthSouth Harmarville marketing liaison and race coordinator. “We’ve been partners with the organization for some time and it is a great resource for many of our patients and the greater community.”
This year’s race will also include a demonstration from Bioness, a medical technologies company, featuring their L300 device. This device is designed to help people with neurological conditions walk more naturally, with increased speed and improved balance through its foot drop system.
“We started this race in 2015 as a way to celebrate the great accomplishments we see every day in our hospital,” said Hopkins. “We have the greatest mix of participants at all levels of ability for this race. For many of our past patients that participate, this race serves as a milestone in their recovery journey. The Dash is a true celebration in every sense of the word.”
All race participants receive a long-sleeved running shirt and access to the post-race party to enjoy music, a vendor fair and catered lunch.
